‘Le Mùirn’ by Catriona Murray

July 2016

This event, launching the 2016 Glasgow Life Merchant City Festival, celebrated the publication of a new book, commissioned by Ceòl ‘s Craic. The book traces the relationship between the renowned “Melbost Bard” Murdo MacFarlane and the Gaelic singer Margaret MacLeod; a relationship which went on to have a significant influence on contemporary Gaelic music.

The audience, which included many influential figures in the current Gaelic arts scene, took part in a fascinating Q & A session led by Margaret MacLeod and author Catriona Murray, which explored the creative process behind the publication.

The accompanying exhibition featured fascinating archive material including photos, letters, manuscripts and the original artworks commissioned specially for this project.

Margaret provided an emotional finale to the evening with an unaccompanied performance of some of the classic songs which are the enduring legacy of this historic collaboration.
